Back in early January we told you Lenovo introduced the IdeaPad Z40 and Z50 multimedia laptops aimed at budget consumers. But a few months ago we weren’t able to provide you with the full specifications of the notebooks.

And now we can finally detail the two models. With the Z40 and Z50 Lenovo is aiming to bring to the mainstream segment superior quality offered at a lower price.

As Notebook Italia notes, the new products come with a thin and light chassis, with the larger of the two being the IdeaPad Z50. The notebook measures 383 x 264 x 25.4 mm / 15.6 x 10.3 x 1 inches and weighs about 2.2 kg / 4.8 lbs. Even if it’s not Ultrabook material, the Z50 is still capable of fulfilling customers’ mobile needs.

The Z40 on the other hand is more compact, as it measures 345 x 244 x 24.6 mm / 13.5 x 9.6 x 0.9 inches and 1.8kg / 3.9 lbs. The cover is made of a soft-touch material which prevents smudges appearing on its surface. The Z40 boasts brushed aluminum access and comes equipped with USB 2.0 and 3.0 and HDMI output.

The two laptops are fitted with a 14-inch and 15.6-inch screens and are available in both HD versions (1366x 768 pixels) and full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels). The laptops are configurable, so users can opt for up to Intel Core i7 processor-wise and up to 16GB of RAM.

Another appealing point of these laptops represents the presence of the new NVIDIA GeForce 840M graphics card. NVIDIA just unleashed its next gen GPU not so long ago.

The notebooks are enhanced with Dolby Home Theatre v4 and can connect to an external TV via WiDI technology too. Lenovo is also concerned with security, so it has added the VeriFacePro facial recognition technology that allows users to unlock their device using the unique features of their face.

Another innovative technology to be found in the Z line is motion control, so users will be able to scroll through feeds and photos just by waving their hand in the air.

Regarding the laptops’ autonomy, Lenovo claims both will last up to 5 hours, which is not much, but it’s still acceptable in terms of mid-range products. The Lenovo IdeaPad Z40 and Z50 will be made available soon enough, although pricing is still a mystery.

However, the notebooks should start at a competitive $599 / €439 which sounds pretty good indeed, judging by the specifications you can opt to add onboard.
