With all the new laptops based on the Intel Sandy Bridge platform, one would be hard pressed to actually find many people that would be surprised at seeing yet another one come to market, so Lenovo's IdeaPad V470 might not make that many ripples.

Lenovo's IdeaPad product series is one composed of mobile computers that cater to the needs of a wide range of consumers.

This includes not just many notebooks, but also netbooks, like the IdeaPad S205, which is a bit larger than most of its kind (11.6 inches instead of 10.1 inches) and is powered by the Fusion platform from Advanced Micro Devices.

The newest addition to the series, IdeaPad V470, returns to the second-generation Intel Core processor series and has a starting price of $629.

More specifically, the central processing unit can be a Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 chip, with the i7-2630QM being the strongest option.

Whichever chip is available can be complemented by 4 GB to 6 GB of RAM (random access memory) with a frequency of 1,333 MHz.

Of course, the notebook would not be such a worthwhile investment without graphics to match the CPU and memory.

As such, Lenovo put in the NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M discrete card with 1 GB of VRAM, which will alternate with the integrated Intel HD 3000 of the processor.

Meanwhile, a hard disk drive contributes with 500 GB or 750 GB of storage space, while a DVD writer handles optical storage and media.

Needless to say, the newcomer has all the necessary connectivity and I/O options (Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and a webcam, among other things).

Finally, the 14-inch display has a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels (HD) and, along with everything else, runs on the energy provided by a 6-cell battery.
