Lenovo unveiled the IdeaPad U400 at the beginning of September, and now, six weeks after its official announcement, this ultra-portable notebook has started to make its appearance in retail stores across the US with a starting price of $920 (670 Euros).

While not an Ultrabook, the U400 still manages to impress thanks to its 22.6mm (0.89 inches) thin aluminum chassis that weights no more than 1.98kg (4.36 pounds).

To make the U400 even more enticing for its customers, Lenovo has also added to its latest creation a breathable AccuType keyboard paired together with a stylish glass touchpad.

Moving to the insides of the notebooks, users will be greeted by an Intel Core i5-2430M processor that includes two computing cores with a base clocks speed of 2.4GHz and a maximum Turbo frequency of 3GHz.

The Intel processor is seconded by 6GB of system memory, while storage is provided by a 750GB hard drive.

For graphics duty, Lenovo has chosen to pair the integrated HD 3000 GPU with an AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics core that comes equipped with 1GB of video buffer memory.

As far as connectivity is concerned, the IdeaPad U400 features all the usual 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and Ethernet options, but also includes an USB 3.0 port and support for Intel's WiDi wireless video streaming technology.

An HDMI output is also included and the rest of the specs sheet includes a slot-in DVD writer, a 1.3-megapixel webcam and a battery pack that can provide up to six hours of operation without requiring a recharge.

The 14-inch LED backlit screen included in the IdeaPad U400 has a native resolution of 1366x768 pixels.

Lenovo's ultra-portable notebook is available right now in the US from retailers such as Amazon, where it's listed at $920, which translates into about 670 Euros. (via Electronista)
