As some end-users may know, Intel recently declared that a new generation of netbooks would sprout soon, built around the Atom N550 dual-core processor, and Lenovo appears to have been quick to oblige, its IdeaPad S10-3 having already been set up for pre-order.

For those interested in a reminder, the Atom N550 is a dual-core mobile central processing unit which has a clock speed of 1.5GHz.

Intel announced that a fair number of PC builders had already decided to adopt this chip in their new batch of entry-level laptops, something that will again propell its chip sales upwards.

“Having shipped about 70 million Intel Atom chips for netbooks since our launch of the category in 2008, there is obviously a great market for these devices around the world,” said Erik Reid, director of marketing for mobile platforms at Intel.

Lenovo wasted no time in heeding the call and created the IdeaPad S10-3 which, according to a recent report made by NetbookNews, has been set up for pre-order.

Like most of its peers, the device has a screen size of 10.1-inches, and the display itself boasts a native resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels.

The aforementioned CPU is backed up by 1GB of DDR3 memory, which is significantly faster than the DDR2 that such electronics had to make do with until not overly long ago.

The outfit also added a hard disk drive of 250GB to the mix, and naturally provided the full range of connectivity and I/O options.

The list of such specifications includes LAN, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and a 5-in-1 card reader.

All in all, this machine should prove more resourceful than its DDR2-equipped predecessors and is pre-loaded with the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system (OS).

The report states that pre-orders can already be set in Australia, for a price of $559.98, which is the equivalent of 496.65 USD.
