It might give it the push it needs to become a relevant brand in South America

Lenovo has been making good progress towards its goal of becoming the world's top supplier of PCs, but it still has a way to go.

Next on the goal list is to acquire a wider customer base in areas that aren't, yet, firmly taken over by its rivals.

One such country is Brazil. Lenovo actually has its sights on the whole of South America, but Brazil is a good place to start.

Case in point, the company is thinking of building a factory there, a facility that would recruit up to 700 locals.

It is only in blueprint stages for now though, but, when complete, it will occupy a 325,000-square meter lot in Sao Paulo.

In related news, Lenovo has recently decided to move production of ThinkPad mobile PCs to Japan, in a bid to gain prestige by having “Made in Japan” scribed on the label. Since quality requirements are much higher there, the products should have a better chance of selling compared to products made in China.
