Today, Chinese mobile phone maker Lenovo has officially confirmed plans to make the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system available for no less than six smartphones that it is currently selling in India, namely the Lenovo S930, S650, S820, S920, S660, and P780.

Moreover, the handset vendor has revealed that the new platform update will start arriving on devices later this week, and that it will be rolled out in stages to all users by September.

At the same time, the mobile phone maker has officially confirmed that the KitKat update will bring to said devices the same user interface and new features that the company’s Vibe handsets have received not long ago.

All of the aforementioned mid-range mobile devices are expected to receive Premium DOit apps, which include SECUREit, Shareit, and SYNCit.

The Android 4.4 KitKat platform update will also provide owners of these devices with better application compatibility, as well as with a series of security enhancements and bug fixes.

On top of that, the platform upgrade will deliver a new version of Lenovo’s power manager, along with better battery usage times, and an improved camera application, which will offer more efficient autofocus and white balance capabilities.

“After rolling out updates for Vibe Z, Vibe X and S860 last month, we are now bringing Android 4.4 to six of our mid-range smartphones at various price points,” Sudhin Mathur, Director- Smartphone, Lenovo India, said, according to AndroidOS.

“These updates are poised to take the user experience of these phones to a different level. In the last two years in India, we have grown leaps and bounds launching over 18 smartphones, each addressing specific user requirement, and we aim to continue this growth trajectory with newer models and iterations.”

Lenovo has already seen a lot of popularity in India, and the availability of Android 4.4 KitKat for its Lenovo S930, S650, S820, S920, S660, and P780 smartphones will certainly help it attract even more of them to its side.

According to a recent IDC report, Lenovo has ended the second quarter of this year on the fourth position on the global smartphone market, behind Samsung, Apple, and Huawei, with a 5.4 percent market share (the company sold 15.8 million devices in Q2).

The company has managed to greatly increase its shipment volume compared to the same period last year and might continue to do so, especially since its mid-range handsets are highly appreciated in various markets out there, including India.
