Microsoft continues to bet big on Windows RT, but partners are slowly dumping the platform, explaining that Windows 8 is a much better alternative for both OEMs and consumers.

Now Lenovo seems to be ready to do the same thing, with a company executive explaining that nobody needs Windows RT anymore.

According to Engadget, Lenovo’s Australian marketing chief Nick Reynolds said during a press conference that Windows RT should no longer exist, as Intel’s Haswell chip makes it possible to run the full version of Windows 8 without any drop in battery life.

Windows RT, on the other hand, continues to play a key role in Microsoft’s long-term strategy, especially because the company is looking into ways to expand its presence in the hardware market.

The second-generation Surface tablet, which should be here by year-end, is also said to come with Windows RT 8.1, the improved version of the operating system that comes with lots of updates for the touch.
