Together with its business-centered ThinkPad T430u Ultrabook, Lenovo has also announced today a new 14-inch Edge S430 laptop that is targeting the same market segment but comes with a more advanced set of features.

Designed around a 14-inch screen, Lenovo’s creation is powered by the “latest Intel Core“ processors (whatever that may mean) which can be paired together with Nvidia-built discrete GPUs.

These fully support the Optimus dynamic graphics switching technology, which is used to improve the batterY life of the notebook by turning off the dedicated graphics core when this isn’t needed.

On the storage side, Lenovo offers its users up to 1TB of hard drive space as well as a DVD burner to be used for data backup purposes.

External HDDs can also be connected either via the notebook’s USB 3.0 ports or its Intel Thunderbolt connector which according to Lenovo can transfer a “full-length HD movie in less than 30 seconds and backup a year of continuous MP3 playback in just over 10 minutes”.

All these are packed inside a Mocha Black case that measures less than one-inch in thickness and has metal accents and a soft-touch finish.

"Small businesses are demanding a laptop that can do it all – they want great performance for work tasks and an excellent experience for their own personal computing," said Luis Hernandez, vice president, ThinkPad Edge Business Unit, Lenovo.

"The new ThinkPad Edge laptops exceed these expectations with extras like a new progressive design, speedy boot up and easy management features," concluded the company’s rep.

The ThinkPad Edge S430 laptop will start selling in June of this year, but Lenovo will limit its availability to select markets. Pricing wasn’t mentioned, but I guess these sort of details will make their appearance once we get nearer to its summer launch.
