Lenovo has just made the official introduction of a tablet whose battery life may just be the longest that tablets have flaunted so far.

Lenovo recently issued an official press release in which, among other things, it speaks of the IdeaTab S2 tablet.

On the surface, the device is not overly outstanding, save for the custom user interface (Lenovo Mondrian UI).

At a second glance, though, users will note that some things stand out.

For instance, rather than a Tegra chip from NVIDIA or an ARM Cortex CPU, the company selected a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8960 dual-core unit.

The second feature is the very long battery life, of up to 20 hours, although, true enough, it implies that the detachable keyboard dock be connected.

“We understand our users need more than just the traditional keyboard and screen for a truly satisfying digital experience,” said Liu Jun, senior vice president and president, Mobile Internet and Digital Home business group.

Lenovo did not elaborate on the independent battery life, nor on the exact conditions that have to be met for this duration to actually be achieved in real life.

At the very least, WiFi will probably have to be turned off.

Nonetheless, it bears noting that, even with WiFi enabled, the slate will probably last for a longer time that rival products.

That said, the 10-inch device (1,280 x 800 pixels) is loaded with the Android 4.0 operating system, otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich.

Prospective buyers may be interested in knowing about the access to the Lenovo App Shop and Android Market app stores as well.

Unfortunately, the press release did not include all the product specifications of the 1.1-pound item (roughly 500 grams).

Lenovo has every intention of demonstrating the IdeaTab S2 at this year's Consumer Electroncis Show (CES, 2012), where the exact storage and and connectivity capabilities will be unveiled (RAM capacity is 1GB).

Needless to say, the keyboard dock will be shown off alongside it.
