Today, Chinese mobile phone maker Lenovo officially announced a new smartphone in India, in the form of Lenovo A526.

The new device will hit shelves in the country as an entry-level phone and will also feature a low price tag, at only Rs. 9,499 ($159/€115), which should help it attract a lot of users on its side.

The latest device in Lenovo’s A-series lineup will arrive on shelves in India with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering an 854 x 480 pixels resolution.

Moreover, the handset will feature a 1.3GHz quad-core processor inside, a Mediatek MT6582M SoC and will also include 1GB of RAM, which should allow it to provide users with increased performance capabilities.

Lenovo A526 also announced the new smartphone with 4GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

On the back, the phone sports a 5-megapipxel camera, which should be able to record videos in HD resolution, paired with a VGA front camera for making video calls while on the go.

The new device comes to the market with dual-SIM capabilities packed inside (GSM + GSM), with dual-standby, being only 11.1mm thick and weighing 145 grams, as a recent article on fonearena notes.

The specs list of the mobile phone also includes support for 3G (HSDPA: 21Mbps, HSUPA: 5.76Mbps) networks, along with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity capabilities. Moreover, it arrives on shelves with built-in GPS receiver for navigation purposes.

The new Lenovo A526 is powered by a 2000mAh battery and runs under the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system right from the start (however, chances are that it will get a taste of a newer platform version in the not too distant future).

“Out of the 876 million mobile phone users in India, about 10% of the users own a smartphone. However, today there is an influx of devices specifically targeted at this untapped segment in fast-growing markets like India,” Sudhin Mathur, director of Smartphones Lenovo, India, said.

“With the Lenovo A series range, we are looking at revolutionizing the concept of budget phones in India by offering consumers a superior smartphone experience at an affordable price point.”

The new Android-based smartphone will become available for purchase in India on April 5, in Blue. It will be put up for sale through the official thedostore.com, as well as via 1,400 Lenovo exclusive stores in the country.
