Lenovo got busy this week and unveiled a new mid-range smartphone for the Russian market. The handset is called the A5000 and comes with a price that revolves around $235 / €219.

The phone will also be launched on the Indian market, but it’s unclear at the moment whether we’re going to see it make it out internationally.

As we mentioned above, the new model isn’t something that will knock your shoes off, but it does bring to the table a few features you’ll probably appreciate.

The A5000 arrives with a 5-inch IPS display with HD resolution (720 x 1280 pixels) and has 300 ppi. Under the hood lies a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor clocked at 1.3GHz with Mali T760 MP2 GPU.

No Android 5.0 Lollipop on board the Lenovo A5000

Other specs that come up in the technical specification list include 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (microSD card included to take you up to 32GB of internal storage). The new device will arrive with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and with Lenovo’s own skin plastered on top.

Currently, no Lenovo smartphones have received the Lollipop treatment, but the Chinese device maker has promised it for some of its higher-end models. Lenovo is notoriously slow when it comes to updates, so you shouldn’t get your hopes up for seeing the new A5000 get the update any time soon.

Going back to specifications, the phone bundles an 8MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash, while the front part is home to a 2MP front-facing camera with fixed focus.

In the connectivity department, users will be able to take advantage of 3G, GPRS/Edge, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth, and microUSB.

The device also takes advantage of an accelerometer, ambient light sensor and a proximity sensor. But what’s interesting is that for such a mid-range device, Lenovo chose to offer a pretty chunky 4,000 mAh battery on board, which, in combination with the low-res display, should be able to offer a never ending life cycle for the phone.

Lenovo says the A5000 can sustain 17 hours of talk time and up to 792 hours of standby on 3G networks. Last but not least, the handset is equipped with Quick Charge support, so users will be able to get from 0% all the way to 100% in only 3 hours.
