In early January 2009, Lenovo, one of the leading vendors of portable computer systems, introduced its latest IdeaPad models, coming to provide its customers with a choice for a 14-, 15-, and a 16-inch laptop configuration. It now appears that the company's 16-inch model, dubbed IdeaPad Y650, has finally been made available for shipping, for as little as $1299, for the base model.

As a reminder, the new Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 laptop was among the first portable computer systems designed with one of NVIDIA's latest mobile GeForce graphics cards, more specifically the G105M. The system is ready to provide its users with the computing performance of an Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor, running at 2.4GHz. The base configurations start with just 3GB of DDR3 1066MHz graphics memory and provide a 320GB 5400 hard drive.

Currently, Lenovo can provide its customers with three configuration options, which start at just $1300, $1350, and $1400, respectively depending on the system's CPU and GPU model. Users can select from two Intel Core 2 Duo processors, the aforementioned P8600 and the higher-clocked P8700. As far as the system's graphics are concerned, the IdeaPad Y650 can be equipped with either a discrete GeForce G105M video card with 256MB of memory, or Intel's integrated X4500 graphics solution.

The highest-priced configuration packs 4GB of DDR3 1066MHz memory, a Windows Vista Home Premium 64, a 6-cell battery, Intel's Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100 and Bluetooh v2.0 + EDR and an DVD Recordable optical drive. For additional features and performance increases, users can turn to the company's website and follow the configuration steps that will provide them with the means to build themselves the Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 of their choice. Now, one of the main features of Lenovo's 16-inch IdeaPad laptop is the fact that it weighs just 5.6 pounds, so you are to decide if that is enough to make you want to purchase one.
