Just recently,
Lenovo rolled out its latest IdeaPad portable computer system, which also marked the first foray of company on the netbook market. And it's not planning to stop here either, as word in the industry has it that it is also expected to release a second model to its new netbook lineup, which will make its debut this autumn, just in time for the winter holidays.
"IdeaPad netbooks are the latest in a string of recently announced Lenovo products, designed specifically for consumers worldwide and developed through our heritage of technological innovation and exceptional engineering," said Liu Jun, senior vice president, Consumer Business Group, Lenovo, at the launch of the IdeaPad S10.
As we already noted in several of our previous posts, over these past months, the netbook market has registered an impressive growth rate, mostly due to the launch of Intel's Atom processor, which provides the computing power for many of today's netbooks. Lenovo also decided to go with the Atom for its latest system, which is set to hit the US market sometime in October with a price tag set in the $399-499 range, depending on the model.
The S10 is a 10-inch netbook that will offer users a maximum storage capacity of 80GB, but Lenovo is expected to come up with an 8.9-inch model as well, which will be meant to compete with ASUS' Eee PC 900 and 901 models. The company's latter product will be branded as S9 and will provide lower storage, at just 8GB on an SSD.
Aside from the storage space, the S9 should also be equipped with an Intel Atom processor clocked at the already famous 1.6GHz. It will pack 1GB of RAM, a 4-in-1 memory card reader, an Express Card slot and even a 1.3MP camera. As with the S10, the S9 will also be offered in two flavors, with either Windows XP or Linux OS pre-installed. There are no specific details regarding the price tag, but rumors say it could be set somewhere around the $400 area.
