As we were also telling you a few days ago, the release of Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” prompted LoveFilm to launch a poll among moviegoers asking them to vote for the most confusing film of all times. But that’s not all the latest blockbuster has done in terms of impact in the industry, as it would seem a long-planned remake is finally about to happen because of it, The Hollywood Reporter says.

According to the Heat Vision section of THR, Columbia was long looking to come out with a remake of the classic “Total Recall,” but never got to it for various reasons. One of them was also that it was afraid audiences were not in the mood for such a twisted plot, but the release of “Inception” has shown beyond any trace of doubt that this is just the right time. Moreover, famed director Len Wiseman is being courted with an offer to helm the remake, the report further says.

“Len Wiseman is in negotiations to direct ‘Total Recall,’ Columbia’s remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action movie directed by Paul Verhoeven. The studio and producer Neal Moritz are aiming for a contemporized adaptation of the movie, which was based on Philip K. Dick story, ‘We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.’ It followed a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air,” THR writes.

“The movie explored one of Dick’s favorite topics, reality vs. delusion, as audiences never knew whether or not the story was a dream. It is unknown as this time whether the new script, begin written by Kurt Wimmer, will follow a similar path. Wiseman, repped by ICM, is best known for writing, directing and producing the moneymaking vampire vs. werewolf ‘Underworld’ franchise for Screen Gems,” the same report goes on to mention.

As of now, further details on the remake have not yet gone to press. However, since this is believed to be a big project, more on it should emerge any day now so make sure you keep an eye on this space for when it does.
