Fourth installment is a possibility

“Underworld” first hit theaters in 2003, and came as a breath of fresh air for making possible another take on the classic vampire story. Thanks to gorgeous actress Kate Beckhinsale, a sequel was also possible, aptly called “Underworld: Evolution.” This Friday, the third installment drops, and Len Wiseman, who now acts solely as co-producer, speaks of even more films coming fans’ way.

“Underworld: Rise of the Lycans” was initially meant as the last part of the trilogy dealing with the centuries-long dispute between the vampire race and the Lycans. However, from what Len Wiseman, director of the first two installments and co-producer for the third, says, chances are more films on the same topic are coming our way. Speaking with ShockTillYouDrop, Wiseman has revealed that, in the end, it all depends on the way the public receives “Rise of the Lycans.”

“We’ll see what happens with this one. They [the producers] are now a bit more open. There was always a hope that there were three films we could tell – so, we’ve completed that trilogy we’ve talked about. There are many places we can go. If people are willing to go back, they’re willing to go forward.” Wiseman explains. And, from what fans are saying on dedicated forums, they do want to go back.

“I’m kind of flirting with ideas of what would take place in the future. I’m just glad people are accepting that we can jump around in the time line and people are interested. Hopefully, they’ll be willing to accept different stories, because the characters are there and they’re immortal. It would be fun to go forward again.” Wiseman also reveals, with reference to a possible forth installment that would take place in the future.

“Underworld: Rise of the Lycans” is set before the timeframe in the first two installments, as it tries to explain what it was exactly that set the two races of undead against each other. It opens in the US on January 23 and, depending on how it will perform at the box-office we’ll probably hear more of a fourth “Underworld” film.
