Fans hoping to see a “Mummy” reboot will either have to wait a bit longer or, worst case scenario, cast all dreams of seeing one aside. Len Wiseman, who was supposed to direct it, has left the project.

As I noted in September 2012, Wiseman had been confirmed as director, with the film eyeing a summer 2014 release date.

Variety reports that Wiseman is now out, which means the project is in limbo until it gets a new director. This could also alter the tentative release date.

“Sources tell Variety that director Len Wiseman has fallen off the project due to scheduling conflicts. Sources say he has been devoting increasing time to his Fox TV series ‘Sleepy Hollow’,” Variety says.

“Sean Daniels, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing,” the e-zine adds.

The script is already penned, with the first draft belonging to Jon Spaihts (“Prometheus”), and the second to Billy Ray (“The Hunger Games”).

As you can see, even without Wiseman, this reboot has only the best of the best working on making it happen. Whether it will ever see the light of day remains to be seen.
