Legendary German photography brand Leica has announced their collaboration with Gagosian Gallery in producing a new limited-edition Leica X2 Gagosian camera.

Leica is well known around the world for producing unique, limited-edition cameras in collaboration with the world's best brands, and this model makes no exception.

The new Leica X2 Gagosian Edition camera comes with a unique design inspired by famous Expressionism paintings, in a robust all-metal body. The body, wrapped in white leather, features black paint splashes in a classy Expressionist style.

Gagosian Gallery was established in 1980 by renowned art dealer Larry Gagosian, and it has ever since hosted exhibitions of contemporary art (Eric Fischl, Jean-Michel Basquiat and David Salle), as well as modern art works.

Leica X2 Gagosian Edition has the same features as the usual Leica X2 model including a 16.5-megapixel APS-C format CMOS image sensor and comes with Leica's Elmarit 24mm f/2.8 ASPH lens.

The camera is able to focus from as low as 30cm to infinity, while the increased ISO sensitivity up to ISO 12,500 allows you to take great photos even in low light.

When it comes to shutter speed, the Leica X2 Gagosian Edition is a little slow with 30s to 1/2000th of a second, but then again, this camera wasn't made for capturing fighter jets in flight.

Roland Wolff, vice president of marketing for Leica Camera USA, said that “The Leica X2 Gagosian Edition continues Leica’s rich heritage in all technical aspects and function, married with an artistic flair reflective of Gagosian’s presence in the world of art”

Leica X2 Gagosian Edition is now available for purchase at the Gagosian Shop and on the Shop's website for $2,999 / €2,237. If you by chance want to buy one, you should hurry as only 100 units of this limited-edition camera will be produced by the German manufacturer.

Another limited-edition camera, the Leica M, designed by famous Apple Senior Vice President of Design, Sir Jonathan Ive and London-based designer Mark Newson, will be auctioned at Sotheby's on November 23.
