The update improves overall AutoFocus and GPS performance

After releasing Firmware 1.2 for Leica T Typ 701 Camera, the producer has just rolled out a new firmware update targeted at its S Type 006 imaging device, namely version 2.4.0.0.

This new release adds freshly developed AF algorithms and drive controls that enhance the focus speed, responsiveness, smoothness, and precision, therefore improving the camera’s overall AutoFocus performance.

In addition to that, through version 2.4.0.0, the predictive object tracking in AF Continuous Mode is also enhanced, all S-lenses firmware variants are supported, and compatibility with the new Summicron-S 1:2/100mm ASPH lens is added.

Moreover, the GPS precision will be more accurate with this firmware, namely the images will carry the Global Positioning System coordinates only if they aren’t older than 5 minutes (compared to 24h on earlier software versions).

As for making use of these changes, first turn on the camera, go to Menu > Firmware > Setup, and check the currently installed firmware in order to make sure it isn’t either newer or matching the present release.

If all is ok, save and extract the downloadable archive, copy the .FW file onto an empty SD or CF card (must be initialized using the camera), insert it into the camera, and power on the device while holding the rear joystick.

At this point, the installation process is initiated, therefore don’t turn off the camera, remove the battery/memory card, detach the lens, or interrupt the upgrade in any way. Upon completion, remove the SD card, and check the currently installed firmware once more to ensure a successful update.

That being said, download Leica S (Type 006) Camera Firmware 2.4.0.0, take into account all aforementioned aspects, apply the latest software, and enjoy the benefits that this new release brings about.
