As was expected this week, Leica took the opportunity to unveil the Leica T (Type 701) camera which comes with a 16.5MP APS-C sensor able to capture JPG and DNG raw still image files.

Keeping true to the tradition of gorgeous design, Leica doesn't disappoint with the latest Leica T, a camera which is a little bit smaller than the company’s rangefinder cameras, especially when talking about weight. The camera’s body is made of a solid block of aluminum and has been designed by Audi, a detail that puts an interesting spin on things.

The Leica T has no rangefinder, but users can opt for an optional electronic viewfinder. The camera features twin control dials and that’s not all, as Leica has added a pretty big touch-screen display (3.7-inch) to the party too.

The camera is capable of shooting 1080 / 30p HD video and has 16GB of internal storage under the hood, which can be further expanded on via the SDXC card.

Leica says the camera has ISO light sensitivity ranges of 100 to 12,500 (strange considering most cameras go as far as 12,800) and shutter speeds from 30 seconds to 1/4,000 second.

The Leica T also enjoys the Wi-Fi functionality which can be used to connect it to iOS and Android devices using the Leica T app.

As we have told you before, the camera doesn't come alone but accompanied by two new lenses for the T-System in the form of the Leica Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH and the Leica Summicron-T 23mm f/2 ASPH.

The company also said it has plans to release the 11-23mm f/3.5-4.5 wide angle zoom and a 55-135m f/3.5-4.5 telephoto zoom too, in the near future, so keep an eye out for that as well.

The new Leica camera primary stands out due to its attractive design and impressive set of features. The camera will also arrive with several accessories like straps and carrying bags.

Knowing Leica, the new camera certainly won’t come cheap. The Leica T, lenses and accessories are expected to become available on the market May 26.

When the camera arrives, be prepared to pay around $1,850 / €1,337 for the Leica T camera body. If you also want the lenses, you should know the 23mm f/2.0 prime will sell for an additional $1,950 / €1,409, while the 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom.

The electronic viewfinder extra ships for around $600 / €434 so if you have your eyes set out on this baby, start saving up.
