Leica Camera has just announced the commencement of the 2014 Oskar Barnack Award, which will also celebrate Leica's centennial in 2014.

The Oskar Barnack Award is opened to all professional photographers who must submit their entries to this prestigious international photography competition from December 15 until January 31, 2014

For the first time ever, in celebration of its centennial, Leica announced that, from this year on, the value of the cash prizes will be doubled. Thanks to that, the winner of the 2014 Oskar Barnack Award will receive a €10,000 / $13,500 cash prize along with a premium-quality Leica M camera and lens valued at €10,000 / $13,500.

The Oskar Barnack Award is also addressed to younger professional photographers aged 25 and under, and offers a €5,000 / $6,750 cash prize as well as a Leica M camera with lens to the winner of this category.

In addition to that, for the first time in the award's history, there will be a third prize for the Leica Oskar Barnack Public Award category. In collaboration with I Shot It, an online platform for photography competitions, the jury will select a shortlist of candidates from which they will have to determine the winner.

The cash prize for the Leica Oskar Barnack Public Award category is €2,500 / $3,375. All the photographers chosen on this shortlist will be eligible to win a Leica compact camera and other prizes.

Keep in mind that all digital images must be 1200 pixels high and can have a variable width. The images must not exceed a maximum file size of 3MB and have to be stored in JPG format with 72dpi resolution.

Also, the officials recommend the usage of the web optimization function present in most image edition programs including Adobe Photoshop. Good luck!
