The bogus offers appear to come from BMW of North America

Users are advised to beware of legitimate-looking emails that purport to come from BMW of North America. The emails have nothing to do with the car manufacturer. Instead, they’re designed to distribute malware.

The spam messages analyzed by Conrad Longmore of Dynamoo’s Blog advertise the BMW 6-Series M Sport Edition and other models.

“Meet the 6-Series M Sport Edition. Available in all 6 series models, the M Sport Edition boasts premium features like M Aerodynamics, LED Adaptive Headlights, an M leather steering wheel, and Nappa Leather sport seats for a ride that’s a 6-Series inside and out,” the bogus offer reads.

The links from these emails don’t point to the BMW of North America website, but to a site that’s been set up to serve a piece of malware.

Longmore highlights that the malware-serving site is hosted on the same IP address as a website used in an American Airlines spam campaign.
