But he currently lacks the time to explore the project

Nintendo has always been known for its lack of experience when it comes to the first-person shooter space, but at least one of its main game developers is interested in seeing how the genre could work in conjunction with the coming Wii U home console.

Shigeru Miyamoto, who is the main developer behind Nintendo’s biggest franchises, has told Kotaku during an interview that, “I actually do kind of want to make a first-person shooter but I don’t have time.”

It seems that, for the Nintendo legend, the main draw to the genre is not the possibility of creating weapons or enemies, but the fact that the entire perspective of the player and his ability to explore his environment is changed, especially when cooperative play is involved.

The developer even suggested how a first-person shooter experience might work on the Wii U, saying, “If you’re playing a first-person shooter and you have the game up on the television screen and you have your subscreen below, within that game world you’re able to turn in all directions around you. Obviously that would be very fun.”

“If you have two people doing that in the same room, that could create a very fun and unique gameplay experience,” he concluded.

At least one shooter is already confirmed as coming to the Wii U, but it is not being created by Nintendo.

ZombiU is a Ubisoft title that involves two players, one using the touch screen controller in a strategy game and the other playing a straight-up shooter as they are competing for control of a number of points in a world filled with zombies.

Rumors have been suggesting that Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which is being developed by Treyarch and published by Activision, will also get a version for the new Nintendo hardware, but the two companies refused to officially confirm it.
