14 DAY TRIAL // Wayside Creations, the team behind the Fallout: Nuka Break series, has just started a new Kickstarter for a high-fantasy live-action production based on the Legend of Grimrock game.
Their previous series Fallout: Nuka Break was also funded by fans of the game via Kickstarter, and now the team wants to try its hand at a more difficult endeavor, a high-concept fantasy production.
Wayside admits that the high production costs are usually prohibitive for independent filmmakers, and trust that Kickstarter is the perfect place to prove that people do want to see an indie high-fantasy film.
Finnish indie developer Almost Human's unlikely success story with their old-school role-playing game Legend of Grimrock was an inspiration for Wayside Creations, whose members were captivated by the game's storyline and design, that they think it is a perfect fit for their fans as well.
Legend of Grimrock is a first-person real-time role-playing game that features gameplay elements similar to ‘90s dungeon crawlers Eye of the Beholder and Ultima Underworld.
Players play the role of convicts thrown into the pit of Mount Grimrock, making their way downwards through the levels of Grimrock Dungeon, on a quest to find freedom that leads them deeper into the mountain and its ancient secrets.
The Legend of Grimrock series is planned to comprise several episodes that eventually will form a feature-length film, and will be developed in close collaboration with the game's creators in order to ensure Wayside's vision complements the world they created.
The series will be directed by Fallout: Nuka Break director Vincent Talenti and the Nuka Break cast will also have a hand in development, along with several other Nuka Break production team members. Joining the team will be Obsidian Entertainment's Chris Avellone, attached to the series as a writer.
