Legend of Grimrock has managed to sell more than 600,000 units since it was launched and the development team at Almost Human says that the success of the title has surprised them all.

On its official blog, the developers state, “We would’ve been happy with just one tenth of the sales numbers, so needless to say we’re very happy and the future of our company is secured for a long time. Last year was an incredible success for Almost Human.”

Legend of Grimrock managed to stay at the top of the Steam sales chart for two weeks and the game was very well received critically.

The team then delivered a Dungeon Editor, similar in many ways to the tools that it used to create the game.

Such a complex tool and the fact that it is integrated with the Workshop section of Steam means that players are free to create their own adventures and then share them with the community.

Almost Human adds, “Our great community is always surprising us with their skills, creativity and activity in the forums with 50,000 posts and counting. And those post are really high quality stuff too, unlike most forums dedicated to games. That means you don’t run out of dungeons to explore in the future.”

The team also posted a new image, which teases its next video game project, presumably an official expansion for Legend of Grimrock.

The fact that the old-school role-playing title has managed to sell well also means that the studio has the freedom to innovate and experiment with its coming video game experiences.

Legend of Grimrock is inspired by classic games like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and Ultima Underworld.

Almost Human has tried to create a deep game that challenges the player at all times while also delivering story via unorthodox means.
