The development team at Paradox Entertainment has announced a new expansion for their grand strategy title Crusader Kings II, called Legacy of Rome, which will enhance the overall gameplay of the title while also adding more options to those players who enjoy playing as the Byzantine Empire.

A number of changes in Legacy of Rome is linked to the military side of Crusader Kings II, which has traditionally been one of the weaker sides of the game.

The new leader focus during the combat stages will mean that players need to pay more attention to their generals and their traits (as well as their loyalty) because battles are now less dependent on numbers and rely more on those who lead.

The mobilization mechanics have also been refined and now gamers will get one single large levy from each of their direct vassals, who will have to deal with the lesser lords themselves.

Standing armies are also available to those rulers who invest in the appropriate technologies and want to have more control over their realms.

To balance standing armies revolts now involve factions, which means that vassals can join one another in battle in order to attack a lord with more strength than in the previous version of Crusader Kings II.

The new faction system in Legacy of Rome can also help players as long as they join the royal faction that has the most members.

Religion is also seeing a change with all Orthodox faith countries now able to appoint their own patriarchs in order to become more independent from the leader in Constantinople.

All rulers get a new ambition, which allows them to develop their skills and their traits, and the Byzantine Empire gets more decisions and events.

The Legacy of Rome expansion for Crusader Kings II will be released during the fourth quarter, only in digital form.
