A university student, an American bartender, a tour guide and, of course, a schoolgirl

Japan's arcade version of Valve's first-person zombie survival shooter Left 4 Dead is apparently coming with some local flavor.

Apparently, none of the eight existing characters is making the cut, as local publisher Taito has decided to replace them with some other characters that the Japanese public will relate with better, as seen on Nessica.

The official trailer for the arcade version of Left 4 Dead shows a bit of footage from the cooperative shooter, allowing a quick peek at some of the new characters and featuring a lot of screaming and moaning.

The official character art allows us a much better look at them, making them much easier to identify. As such, what Japanese players will be able to man into battle against hordes upon hordes of zombies is a line-up consisting of a Japanese university student, a Japanese schoolgirl, an American bartender, and a half-American tour guide who seems ready to ride off into the sunset.

The action of the upcoming game still takes place in the United States, and, considering that it's a four-player co-op experience, it's going to be interesting to see what the arcade cabinets actually look like and what control scheme they end up using in order to emulate the mouse and keyboard.
