New adventures for the survivors

There has been a huge amount of controversy around Valve's Left 4 Dead franchise ever since the announcement of Left 4 Dead 2 at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Seeing as how not even a year has passed since the release of the first title, many players felt betrayed and even started a boycott group against the new product.

Valve immediately started to settle fans’ concerns by declaring, through its executives, that new content would be delivered to the first game. Even though plenty of fans remained skeptic to these promises, a new announcement from Valve will make them extremely happy.

The company has now revealed that a new campaign, playable in single, multiplayer and versus campaign mode, called Crash Course, will arrive on the Xbox 360 console and the PC. This new batch of adventures will actually tie together the No Mercy and Death Toll campaigns, so you can even consider it a vital story mission if you actually cared about the events portrayed in the first four campaigns from Left 4 Dead.

But one of the most interesting aspects about this new campaign will be the fact that Valve hopes to deliver “a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes.” In order to achieve such a thing, a recharge timer for infected teammates will be added and the item spawning mode will be tweaked for a more balanced play session.

“Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools,” said Valve's Gabe Newell. “We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product.”

You will be able to download this new campaign in September for the Xbox 360 and PC but keep in mind that, while the PC version is free, Xbox 360 gamers will have to spend 560 MS Points if they want to download it.
