Adjust text size:

Great news for iPod users around the world. ifixipodsfast.com has put together a website especially made to help you, the iPod owner, physically manage the device:
open various generations of iPods, change their components (battery, hard drive, faceplate, LCD screen) without causing any damage. If you feel confident you can fix your iPod yourself, this is the place to go for assistance.

You can find the website at ipodhowtovideo.com. It hosts information and several video tutorials to help you fix your iPod, without leaving a scratch. If you feel reluctant about opening up your iPod, you needn't worry. The videos are made while a person is actually performing the desired task and you won't need to understand complex graphics and instructions.

For each action you want to perform, you will be instructed what are the tools and skills you'll need, so if you don't have them, it's advisable you see a specialist. All the videos are downloadable and require Quicktime.

The tutorials are grouped as following: iPod Video, iPod Nano, iPod Photo, iPod Mini and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation iPods. Search the tutorial according to the device you own.

If you couldn't find the help you needed in none of the tutorials, you may also choose to become a member of the facebook group or the dedicated forum. Maybe others will be able to help you out. In the following months, picture tutorials (for those still stuck on dial-up) as well as interactive tutorials will become available.

If these tutorials were helpful, please consider that they are all free to use and their creators would greatly appreciate any donation that will support future development.

Hi, Both myself and my partner have got ipods. However, we use the same P.C. I was told that we could both have seperate librarys but still use one P.c. I am unable to do this we are only able to put the same music on both ipods. Can you tell me how to get separate music please. I hope this is a help desk. I am finding it difficult to find one so I can ask this question. Please help Janie Gamble

This is directly from apple.com's website.

How to create a separate iTunes library for each iPod Note: It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not just make a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.

1. Mac users: Hold down the Option key while you open iTunes.
Windows users: Hold down the Shift key while you open iTunes.
2. In the dialog that appears, do the following:
3. Click Create Library.
4. Name and save the alternate library file. iTunes opens with your brand new library file.
5. Open iTunes Preferences.
6. Click the Advanced tab and then click the General tab.
7. De-select Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library checkbox if it is selected and click OK. This will prevent iTunes from creating duplicate copies of your existing media files in the new library folder.
8. Add the specific media files you want on your iPod to iTunes either by dragging them into iTunes or using the Add to Library option in the File menu.
9. Once you have the iTunes LIbrary just how you want it, connect and sync iPod.
10. Once the sync is complete, quit iTunes.
11. Mac users: Hold down the Option key while you open iTunes.
Windows users: Hold down the Shift key while you open iTunes.
12. Click Choose library.
13. Choose your original iTunes Library and click Choose (Mac Users) or Open (Windows Users). You can now switch back and forth between the different libraries for different iPods.

Please note that I tried this (I'm making a library for my mom for her birthday of some old music she likes). You have to continue to hold down the shift button while iTunes is opening. You can't just hit it once. See if this works.
