A leaked image purporting to show the new notifications system adopted by Apple in iOS 5 has surfaced hinting at the rumored Twitter integration.

If this image is to be believed, Apple is indeed revamping the iOS notifications system.

The Cupertino-California based technology giant has recently hired Peter Hajas, a guy who developed a much better iOS alerting system for the jailbreak community - Mobile Notifier.

Apple is believed to have baked in some of Hajas’ ideas, but his system is much more elaborated than what we are witnessing in these images (if they are even genuine, of course).

The first image comprises quite a few notable elements, as TechCrunch points out.

The first and most obvious observation is that iOS displays a native Twitter notification. There has been a lot of chatter lately about Apple and Twitter signing a deal to have the latter baked in iOS.

However, readers will also observe that the time of the screenshot (11:54 PM in the United States) does not exactly match the Weather icon showing 23 degrees Celsius - which would suggest it is the European version of iOS.

Of course, settings can be altered and this is what we’re likely looking at.

There’s also a different Camera application icon on the home screen of the device used to display iOS 5.

The icon is dark, almost all black with a lens shining in the middle. The icons’ arrangement, however, appears to be in standard position.

Based on this image, though, many will be disappointed that none of the breathtaking notifications concepts emerging lately has been adopted by Apple.

Even though the company has hired the guy who coded the best one, it sill seems iOS is a long way from hitting all the right spots.
