It’s been quite a while since the last leak of a Windows 8 pre-release Build, or since new unofficial details about the upcoming release of Windows have made it into the wild, but this stopped with Windows 8 Build 8064. Three screenshots from Windows 8 Build 8064, included at the bottom of this article, as well as some new information about the release have been shared by Chinese site PCBeta.

I have recently reported that Windows 8 has moved to Build 8063, and that the development process was getting close to the Beta milestone.

Obviously, Build 8064 is a superseding interim release, but one that’s still not the fully-fledged Beta, but a Milestone 3 Escrow Build, reportedly.

Microsoft has not offered any official details on Windows 8 Build 8064, and it’s highly unlikely that the company will do so.

In fact, the software giant is expected to keep mum on Windows 8 until the BUILD conference in mid-September, an already sold-out event focused on the next generation of Windows.

According to the details accompanying the leaked images, Windows 8 Build 8064 features a new bootscreen, a fresh BSOD (Black Screen of Death / Blue Screen of Death), revamped installprep and WinPE, a new wallpaper as well as an early Build of Internet Explorer 10.

Not a single one of the items from the list above can be viewed in the screenshots. But this is not to say that the images don’t contain some interesting information.

The first screenshots offer a taste of the Windows Developer Preview Setup window. Microsoft is sharing pre-release copies of Windows 7’s successor with early adopters, that much is clear, and it appears that the Windows 8 Build 8064 installer references a Windows Developer Preview release.

Microsoft is expected to share Windows 8 bits at BUILD next month, but there still no telling whether the company will offer a Milestone 3 (M3) pre-Beta developer preview or the full Beta.
