The leaked build of Windows 8.1 Update 1 that reached the web recently comes with several important features, including options to pin Metro apps to the taskbar and thus launch them a bit faster.

McAkins Online has discovered that Windows Store applications that run in multiple windows also have multi-window thumbnails on the taskbar, a behavior that has been around ever since Windows 7.

Of course, this particular improvement will play a much more important role in Windows 9, when Microsoft is expected to mix the Metro UI and the desktop even more by allowing users to run Modern apps in their own dedicated windows right on the desktop.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 on the other hand is expected to debut this April, with Microsoft to offer it Windows 8.1 users free of charge via the integrated Windows Update feature.
