Microsoft might be bringing back Aero-like effects

The removal of Aero effects in Windows 8 was one of the most controversial decisions that Microsoft has made for its modern operating system, and it turns out that the company is well aware of the fact that millions of users out there really loved this feature.

As a result, as part of its strategy to develop Windows 10 based on customer feedback, the company might be bringing back part of the Aero visual effects in the upcoming operating system, thus trying not only to make its software look good but also get closer to users.

Screenshots that got leaked today reveal what seems to be a new transparency effect for the Start menu, which uses some kind of blur for the desktop background.

Currently being tested in build 10102

While it’s not yet clear how much Microsoft wants to bring back from the Aero suite of visual effects, it’s pretty clear that Windows 10 finally gets the aesthetic makeover that users have been requesting in the last six months or so.

These screenshots published by IThome reveal the new transparency effect in the Start menu in Windows 10 build 10102, a new version of the technical preview that’s currently being tested by a number of Microsoft partners.

As you can see, the Start menu transparency level has been increased from the previous builds, but it’s believed that Microsoft would actually allow users to configure this value in the final version of Windows 10.

The Start menu also gets other handy tweaks, including resizing options that would make it easier to fit various screen sizes.

Windows 10 is projected to launch during the summer of 2015, but more information on the changes that the company could make to the operating system before its public debut is expected to be provided by Microsoft executives during the first day of BUILD tomorrow.
