Symbian^3-powered mobile phones will start receiving a new OS upgrade as soon as next month, namely Symbian Anna, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced not too long ago, but for those who would like to try the software earlier than that, a leaked build already emerged into the wild. Available for download for the Nokia N8 via Bulgarian forum Symbian Modders, the Symbian Anna ROM is only a test software, which means that it might contain certain bugs that would affect the experience users receive from it.

However, this specific Symbian Anna build that leaked for the Nokia N8 was cooked on July 5th, it seems, which means that it should be pretty close to the final release.

Even so, as the guys over at mynokiablog note, the official release is only a few weeks away, and users should wait for it to be delivered.

Moreover, they also got a response from Dinesh Subramaniam, Communications, Nokia, who confirms that the software was a leaked build, and that its installation on N8 devices will void warranty:

As you have correctly pointed out in your post, the software is a leak – of a test version, and hence, not the final version. We’d advise readers against downloading it as could cause disruptions in the proper functioning of their Nokia smartphones as well as getting future updates

More importantly, if your phones require attention from Nokia Care and it is found that the software has been tampered with, your purchase warranty could be null and void.

Just hang in there everyone. The proper software will be available for download by the end of next month.

In related news, we learn that those who installed the leaked software are receiving a new update on their devices via the Ovi Suite desktop application.

To be more precise, two Symbian Anna updates are listed there, Symbian Anna ½, Symbian Anna 2/2, but are only small updates, weighing it at 2.8MB.

On Nokia N8, nothing seems to have been changed following the update. All that was reportedly included with the new software seems to have been already on the device, which suggests that the update was meant mainly at Symbian Anna-powered N8s.
