Sony Mobile’s latest flagship Android-based smartphone, the Xperia Z, is nearing an upgrade to the newest flavor of Google’s mobile operating system, namely Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and screenshots to prove it are now available online.

The leaked images, available courtesy of a XDA-Developers user, show Xperia Z running under software version past the 10.3.X.X.XXX build number, though still based on the 3.4 kernel, as XperiaBlog notes.

The new platform release will arrive with a series of graphical changes, including a transparent notification bar, along with on-screen keys similar to those spotted on the Xperia UL.

Furthermore, the update is said to bring along some performance enhancements to the smartphone, along with a re-designed home launcher.

For the time being, however, no specific info on when the update might arrive on devices has been provided, though it might not be too long before Sony makes it official, so stay tuned.
