Microsoft is working to introduce a new browser in Windows 10 that would eventually replace Internet Explorer completely, and the company promised to offer a preview build of this browser in a Technical Preview build scheduled for the current month.

Screenshots that got leaked today finally provide us with a closer look at the new Spartan browser, which will come not only with a brand new interface but also with features that would make it a stronger rival for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

As you can see in these photos, Spartan will boast the new look of Windows 10 Modern apps, with big buttons in the title bar and a minimal design supposed to make browsing faster and easier for all users.

But as far as the feature lineup is concerned, Spartan will be much more advanced than Internet Explorer and will come with Cortana support to be able to search the web and perform other tasks with voice commands.

Few configuration settings

Right now, Spartan doesn't have too many configuration options, as the browser is still in development, and a lot could change until the final version of the application becomes available.

For instance, Reading View comes with settings to adjust style and font size and nothing more, while the browser only allows you to enable or disable the favorites bar, change the home page, or toggle the SmartScreen filter on and off.

Spartan will also come with Skype support built-in to automatically detect phone numbers, so whenever you browse a website with phone numbers, you will be allowed to just click them to start a call via Skype. This would be very useful on phones and Spartan will also be available on Windows 10 for phones as a universal app.

Spartan will debut later this month as part of Windows 10 Technical Preview and will also come with feedback options that will allow users to send in suggestions and ideas to improve the browser.
