Recently, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has been rumored to plan on bringing to the market a smartphone that would sport a three-sided display, and a leaked photo that allegedly confirms the handset’s existence is now available for your viewing pleasure.

According to previous reports on the matter, the aforementioned device was even said to be launched as the next member of Samsung’s Galaxy Note family of smartphones, and it seems that things might indeed turn out this way.

The leaked photo with the phone made it online courtesy of GSMArena, which claims that the image actually shows the upcoming Galaxy Note 4, supposedly set to become official on September 3 at the IFA 2014 trade show in Berlin.

According to the news site, their anonymous tipster has received the mobile phone for testing, and they decided to share said photo with it, so that enthusiasts know what is coming their way.

The device in this image features a screen that stretches over the right and left sides, thus enabling new, unique functionality for its users.

However, there’s no way to tell whether the image above is showing the real deal or not, so take it with a grain of salt for the time being, as it might prove fake in the end.

The phone was spotted in other leaked images before, though they showed a different design. The new image shows the phone’s back cover as featuring a perforated leather pattern, similar to the one present on Galaxy S5, while previous ones showed it resembling the one on Galaxy Note 3.

Moreover, as the news site notes, the phone is now showed with a flap over the microUSB port, as well as with an even metallic edge, although it featured a thicker edge around the USB port in previously spotted images.

One possible explanation could be that Samsung is actually preparing two versions of the Galaxy Note 4, and that only one of them will sport the aforementioned three-sided display.

Apparently, the company finds it rather difficult to manufacture this version of the device, and will release it as a limited edition. The model with a traditional screen will enjoy mass production, rumor has it.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Galaxy Note 4 is expected to arrive on shelves with a 5.7-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a Quad HD resolution, as well as with a quad-core Snapdragon 805 or an octa-core Exynos CPU inside.

Samsung has already started to advertise the smartphone, despite the fact that it hasn’t officially revealed it as of now and hasn’t provided specific info on the hardware specs the phone will include.
