Well, it looks like satellite radio has finally gotten a true space-age design, at least as far as the new Sirius Boombox is concerned. The codename of this new and seemingly quite fancy gadget is SUB-X2 Boombox, and due to some very accurate pictures, leaked and surfaced at
Orbitcast, thanks to an unknown tipper, we can now get a glimpse of what the future holds on the satellite radio side.
The Sirius SUB-X2 Boombox is in fact a very nice docking system for your Sirius Dock & Play radios, suitable for pretty much any setting and any décor.
It looks somewhat like its predecessor, the SUB-X1, with all the front panel jacks, yet some more features or better specs are expected in this new version. As for the rest, we're talking the same nifty functionality for the fans of satellite radio, especially thanks to its fairly moderate dimensions.
Since we're referring to some leaked pictures, there aren't any definitive specs available; even the price is expected to be in the same range as in the case of the SUB-X1, around $100. This boombox can definitely be used with other MP3 players as well, including iPods, due to its 3.5 mm Aux In jack, and this means that a lot of other people buying it could become Sirius subscription owners, even if they do not currently have such a device.
It's really nice to see that satellite radio is spreading around – and great dedicated gadget emerging is even nicer! To some it might seem that the docking area is a bit disproportioned, taking into account the diminutive dimensions of the Sirius radios, but this is not a general perception. For a hands-on impression that would clear all doubts, we have to wait until the Sirius SUB-X2 Boombox hits the shelves.
