The same source leaked images of the iPhone 4S logic board last year

A user of the Chinese forum Weiphone, who previously posted imagery of unreleased Apple hardware, has leaked photos portraying the logic board (motherboard) of the next-generation iPhone.

Although distinct from the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S logic boards, the iPhone 5 PCB (printed circuit board) is said to fit perfectly with all the other leaked components in recent months.

French site Nowherelse.fr has created an animated GIF image to show where the component fits inside the chassis.

What’s really interesting to note is that Weiphone forum user guojun1984, who is responsible for this particular leak, was also able to produce photos of the iPhone 4S logic board last year, before the iPhone 4S had been released. What’s even better is that the images proved to be accurate.

Not that we didn’t already know what the next iPhone was going to look like, but it never hurts to get more confirmation that we’re on the right track with these leaks.

The abundance of leaks in recent months is likely a side effect of Apple ordering mass production. The company is said to have planned a special event for September 12 for the launch of its next-generation smartphone.

The device itself is expected to come out thinner but longer than the current hardware, with a bigger screen, relocated and / or modified buttons and ports, such as the miniaturized dock connector actively being discussed in the Mac blogosphere for weeks now.

There’s also talk of Apple reshaping the entire iOS lineup from a connectivity standpoint. While that’s likely the plan in the long run, some believe Apple simply cannot include the smaller dock connector on all its iDevices at once, production hurdles being the main culprit.
