Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is reportedly gearing up for the release of a Bold 9700 successor, one that would arrive as the BlackBerry Bold 9780, and which can be admired in the photo attached to this article. In addition to this photo, proof of the handset's existence, as well as of its near arrival, comes from a RIM UAProf document, which can be accessed here.

Rumors on a possible arrival of a BlackBerry 9700 successor have previously emerged into the wild, and it seems that they are pretty close to proving being more than just rumors. Research In Motion is required publish UAProf documents for soon-to-come mobile phones, and one of these documents, which reportedly describes the BlackBerry 9780, has been recently discovered by the guys over at CrackBerry.

According to them, the upcoming mobile phone would sport a screen that can boast a 480 x 360 pixel resolution, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g capabilities, and GSM with 3G connectivity options. Moreover, it seems that the handset would run under the BlackBerry 6 OS, which suggests that the new platform version was not intended exclusively for touchscreen phones, although it is said to have been optimized for them.

While the said RIM document proves that BlackBerry Bold 9780 is part of RIM's future plans, the photo that emerged over at Salomondrin is meant to offer us a glimpse at what the device would actually look like. What users can see there is the fact that the chrome bezel is almost black and that it indeed runs under the BlackBerry 6 OS.

Another known spec of the phone would be its 512 MB of flash memory, but the rest of the hardware might very well be similar with the one on BlackBerry 9700. Since nothing is official on this device for the time being, we'll take the available info on it with a grain of salt, but we'll be waiting for an announcement in the not too far future.
