Round Rock, Texas-based laptop vendor Dell is expected to expand its line of Vostro portable computer systems with the introduction of a new 12-inch model that has recently been leaked over the Internet. The upcoming ultraportable system won't adopt the much hyped Intel Atom or CULV platform, as it will be mainly focused on providing performance for business users. Although details are scarce, it appears that Dell is almost set to unveil the new system, providing its customers with another choice for a Vostro laptop.

According to a recent post on Engadget, Dell's upcoming 12-inch Vostro notebook has been designed on an Intel platform and will be equipped with a Core 2 Duo T6750 processor, running at 2.1GHz. The system also incorporates 4GB of RAM memory, a 320GB hard drive, SD card slot, ExpressCard slot and a fingerprint reader. Although it could be released in a series of color options, the leaked model features a crimson red design.

Unfortunately, the fellows over at engadget were able to score some details on the system's pricing and availability, but it's clear Dell is planning to update the Vostro family in the near future. As some of you already know, Dell's Vostro lineup is designed to cater to the requirements of business users, looking for a portable computing solution that can deliver support for productivity applications. Although Dell has already rolled out an Atom-based Vostro laptop, the upcoming system looks to stay in line with the general specifications of a fully fledged laptop.

Dell could further update its line of portable PCs, after the launch of the much-anticipated Intel Calpella platform. These upcoming, next-generation laptop processors are based on Intel's Nehalem architecture and are designed to provide users with an increased performance and energy efficiency, which basically translates into better battery life.
