Might come with Android 2.2 at launch

DROID X by Motorola, the latest Android-based device Verizon Wireless launched in the United States might be one of the most appealing handsets of the summer, but it seems that it won't be the only such phone on the carrier would have in store for its users. DROID 2 is also on its way to Big Red, an even more appealing addition to the DROID family, just as the leaked user manual for the upcoming mobile phone can unveil.

The upcoming mobile phone is set to land at Verizon Wireless with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, just as the original DROID by Motorola did. Of course, there are a series of design changes that should be noticed there, but, in the end DROID 2 would prove to be the actual successor of last year's highly popular smartphone.

This is not the first time we learn about DROID 2's arrival, nor the last time, that's for sure. Previous rumors on it suggested that Verizon and Motorola would be gearing up to have it available for purchase sometime in mid-August, around the same time as the recently launched DROID X would get updated to Android 2.2 Froyo.

Rumor has it that DROID 2 should come with Froyo right from the start, and the leaked user manual seems to confirm that. As for the other DROIDs at Big Red, they are expected to taste Android 2.2 starting with August 6th, though confirmation on the move still hasn't emerged. However, with Sprint going official with plans to begin the Froyo roll-out on August 3rd, Verizon might not be too late to the party either.

Until more info on this emerges, you might want to head over to Droid-Life to take a look at the entire user manual leaked for DROID 2. The release date for this device shouldn't be too far ahead, which means that the official announcement is near too, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
