Leaked case specifications are generally a good indication of what a next-generation device will look (and even work) like, and that’s precisely what the image displayed to the left aims to do.

Posted by a Norwegian source (picked up by MobileFun.co.uk and properly highlighted by rumor-site MacRumors,) the hardware described in these schematics seem to corroborate an old rumor dished out by the people at ThisIsMyNext about the upcoming iPhone 5.

In fact, the specifications described in this image are strikingly on par with said rumor, including details like:

- a double-purpose home button complete with gesture-area; - an enlarged home button (not by far phased out, as some rumors have said); - an edge to edge screen that leaves little room for a bezel; - sensors placed behind the screen, allowing apple to take up as much real estate as possible without making the actual device larger (loger, wider).

However, there is no confirmation whatsoever that the image we are looking at isn’t someone’s fabrication.

After all, pretty much anyone can draw something like this using even the most primitive of photo editing applications.

All they’d need to do is follow the trail of rumors and apply the most persistent ones to their mockup.

But there is also widespread belief that the iPhone 5 will, in fact, adopt these specifications.

Moreover, some believe the phone will borrow some design elements from the ultra-thin iPod touch, the most prominent of all being the curved / sloped back side.

As theorized by Softpedia in a previous report, if Apple wishes to achieve an iPhone 5 that is thinner than the current shipping model, the back of the phone will most likely boast a tapered design, allowing Apple to better disguise the area where the device comes at its thickest point.
