Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion released a few days ago a new version of the BlackBerry Messenger software solution for its handsets, and is already known to be working on a BlackBerry OS 5.0 platform for the phones, one that will include the BBM, yet no official details on when the firmware will be released have emerged. However, a series of BlackBerry OS 5.0 flavors already leaked to the web, and now they are available for download with the new messaging software too.

Considering the fact that they are only leaked versions, one should take all the necessary precautions before installing them, and should also think about reinstalling the OS as soon as RIM makes the final versions available for download. The new OS iterations come along with BlackBerry messenger for handsets like the BlackBerry Bold (OS 5.0.0.238), Curve 8900 (OS 5.0.0.190), Storm 9530 (OS 5.0.0.230), Tour 9630 (OS 5.0.0.230), and Curve 8520 (OS 5.0.0.238).

What the new OS flavors are set to deliver to users includes an improved responsive experience, as well as visual enhancements like inertial scrolling, spin boxes, gradient shading, animations and more, typing accuracy, an improved BlackBerry Browser, faster JavaScript and CSS processing, and support for Gears and BlackBerry Widgets. The recently unveiled BlackBerry Storm2 will come with BB OS 5.0 right from the start, and those who watched the news on that device might already know what other features the platform is set to deliver.

However, BlackBerry Cool notes that the leaked OSes preview the official releases, and that they come with a series of new features for BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5 users too, including: - Set follow-up Flags on the handset like they can in Microsoft Office Outlook - Manage Microsoft Exchange email folders (Add, Rename, Move, Delete) on the handset - Access remote file shares (Windows Shares); Save, View, Edit, and Email documents from remote file shares - Forward appointments and view calendar attachments on the handset - Benefit from wireless sync improvements for Contacts, including sync for multiple contact folders, personal Distribution Lists and contacts in Public/Shared folders.

While the goodies that BlackBerry OS 5.0 is set to deliver seem as appealing as they can be, we do not encourage you to try the leaked versions, but wait for the official release to make an appearance. The leaks can be found available for download on various websites on the Internet.
