Google's next iteration of Android, 3.0 Gingerbread, seems indeed to be close to making an official appearance. Following a series of leaked info on it, including an alleged blurry photo of the Gingerbread home screen, now we can have a look at what is said to be a video of the OS in action.

In all fairness, we're talking about a 10 seconds-long video, which does not show more than the "screen off" animation of a device supposedly running under the upcoming mobile OS version.

The video in question was published by the guys over at Phandroid, who also unveiled a series of other interesting details on the new Android version early this week.

“What you see above is what happens in Gingerbread when turning your screen off: a cool effect not unlike what we used to see when turning a TV off back in the tube days,” the news site reports.

Although this might not seem too much to many, it does confirm that there will be some graphical changes in the next flavor of Android, starting with the home screen, and most probably going through the menus as well.

“It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it certainly is nice and it’s worthy to note that this is the first time we’ve seen animations of this sort triggered upon hitting the designated screen off button on your phone,” the news site continues.

“Note that no theme for any custom ROM or any version of Android is able to trigger such an animation, leading us to believe that this is – in fact – the real deal."

Of course, there are great chances that the final flavor of Gingerbread would not include the feature that supposedly was showcased in the video below.

Some of the latest rumors on Gingerbread suggested that the OS might be ready in the coming weeks, and that the first devices powered by it should arrive at next year's CES show.

However, while taking this with a grain of salt for the time being, we'll be waiting for more confirmation on Gingerbread's new visual appearance, as well as on other under-the-hood changes that Google might have packed inside it.
