Unconfirmed leak purports to show the front panel of the iPhone 5S at Foxconn plant

A handful of photos are making the rounds purporting to show the front glass panel of the iPhone 5S. The images include a comparison shot between the new hardware and the corresponding iPhone 5 part, showing only minor changes.

Pictured left is the part in question. Hundreds are placed next to each other in what looks like a Foxconn iPhone factory, indicating that production is well underway.

We also have a gallery for you below, showing more images of the alleged iPhone 5S touch panel as well as the atmosphere at the assembly line when the pictures were taken.

There’s an offset chance the images (courtesy of Nowhereelse.fr) are fake, though our gut tells us they’re legit. The comparison shot between the iPhone 5 panel and the iPhone 5S panel is likely to be accurate as well.

Minor changes can be noticed in the upper side where the camera assembly and various sensors are usually found. While this doesn’t change the design of the phone externally, it does prompt a rearrangement of some of the parts inside the phone.

This is quite in line with all the recent rumors about the phone.

If these images are accurate and Apple has started mass-production of the iPhone 5S, there’s a slight chance they will announce it later today, with shipping to commence in July.

Although the media is clinging onto Tim Cook’s promise that Apple will make its biggest announcements in fall, that doesn’t mean today’s WWDC keynote is bound to omit the iPhone.

Considering all the chatter about Apple releasing “a family of iPhones” this year, the company might need more than one event for the rollout.

Apple’s WWDC 2013, hosted at San Francisco’s Moscone West, is set to begin with a keynote address today at 10:00 AM sharp, local time.
