It was just a few days since a certain Acer Chrome OS machine was detailed, to some extent, and now it looks like Sansung's own such project fell under the eye of watchful web entities, a leak having provided some of the details on it.

Google's Android OS is a success and, though it hit a stumbling block that had repercussions, the Google TV project might still do well for itself.

As such, Chrome OS, the cloud-based, browser-inspired operating system for netbooks, is expected to make an impression, hopefully (for IT players) good.

Acer is one of the IT companies that will eventually sell a netbook loaded with the software platform, as made clear in a report we covered in detail here.

Now, a different leak delivered some of the specifications of Sansung's own device straight into the hands of the Internet.

The code name of the low-end portable personal computer is Alex and the processor used is the Intel Atom N550. For those that don't know, this particular chip has a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and two cores.

The Qualcomm Gobi 3G modem is part of the configuration, as is Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth and USB (universal serial bus), plus VGA.

That said, a SanDisk P4 mini-SSD (solid state drive) fulfills all data storage tasks, with a capacity that probably wont's be too large, what with most files intended to be stored online, in the cloud.

As for the display, it will probably have a size of 12 inches, unless Samsung decides to revert to the standard 10.1-inch form factor.

Either way, shipments should begin around the middle of the year, since that is the period when all Chrome OS machines are set to pour in.

What remains is to see, besides pricing, is how open prospective buyers are to the idea of doing everything online instead of on their laptops' own HDDs/SSDs.
