14 DAY TRIAL // Even though NVIDIA finally seems to have caught up on the DirectX 11 video card market, Advanced Micro Devices is quickly closing in with its new range of video boards, one of which has even been pictured, revealing what looks like a dual-slot, high-end board with two PCI Express power connectors.
Though they will be based on the same 40nm manufacturing process technology as the Radeon HD 5000 series, the HD 6000 line will be, overall, superior to its predecessor.
The official launch of these products is expected to take place soon, which means that market watchers are already stumbling upon leaks and rumors.
One of the latest ones came in the form of a photo from ChipHell that is, allegedly, a representation of one of the higher-end cards, likely the AMD Radeon HD 6870 or the HD 6970, based on the Cayman-XT GPU.
Needless to say, actual specifications haven't been found out, but some of the card's features can still be deducted from the picture alone.
For one, design-wise, the device appears to be a dual-slot video card whose cooler uses a single fan, much like many of AMD's previous and current-generation video adapters
Two PCI Express power connectors are also present, which seems to be in line with a video board from the higher spectrum of the market.
Furthermore, there seem to be a pair of DVI ports and a HDMI output, plus two mini-DisplayPort connectors, hinting at support for up to five monitors.
Finally, the leak shows a pair of CrossFireX connectors, which points at support for Quad CrossFireX multi-GPU configurations.
Unfortunately, no actual specifications or pricing details are available at this time, and while the photo does show an ATI sticker, the final products likely won't have it, considering AMD's recent decision to drop the brand altogether.
Nevertheless, it shouldn't be long before another leak finally reveals some performance numbers.
