Front glass panel looks indeed larger, but there are little to no changes in design

A new purported leak from Chinese microblogging site Weibo gives us a new glimpse at the dimensions of the upcoming iPhone 6, but it could also deliver the disappointing realization that Apple has not changed the front of the device at all.

In a recent editorial, we pointed out that Apple has done little to change the face of its popular iPhone since 2007 while extending an opinion that iPhone 6 needs an all-new face, not just a new case. Opinions are divided on this topic, but most people agree that the Cupertino giant might need to spice up the iPhone business sooner rather than later.

But if the latest Foxconn leak is any indication, Apple has done nothing in this department except expand the size of the screen. A supposedly leaked photo from an iPhone assembly line shows that the California tech giant has commissioned the manufacturing of a display bezel that looks nearly identical to the ones before it, albeit with a narrower outline.

The dimensions are indeed on par with rumors regarding a larger model being deployed this year, and since the similarities are so obvious, there’s hardly any reason not to pass this one as legitimate. At least until more conclusive leaks arrive.

Another intriguing aspect about this leak, and those reported in the past few days, is that they’ve arrived much earlier than expected. If Apple was indeed going to ship these babies in September, such leaks shouldn’t have cropped up until later this summer.

Therefore, it might not be so far-fetched to see the phone announced at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco on June 2, as some analysts have speculated in the past.

While the front of the device might not change much, the back of the iPhone 6 will most certainly be completely redesigned. Tooling used for machining metal enclosures that will supposedly house the phone have also been leaked in photos, suggesting that Apple will go with aluminum yet again.

Most bets are on a design akin to that of the iPod touch, while the inside upgrades will consist of a faster (A8) processor, more memory, better graphics, and perhaps more sensors to give the iOS 8 Healthbook app some readings on your health status.

Some rumors also suggest that Apple might price the iPhone 6 higher than its predecessors, but this is mere speculation (on behalf of Wall Street) at this point.
