Azubu, a premium eSports platform, announces that it is organizing a major League of Legends tournament which will focus on charity on January 10 and 11, asking gamers who take part to prove their skills with Zed, the shadowy ninja warrior of the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title.

The company says that the event is focused on North American players and that all the donations coming from the community will be matched and the money gathered will be directed to a number of charities, including Extra Life.

The pro League of Legends players who will take part include: Xiaolan, Evertan, Nathaniel Bee, NintendudeX, Yusui, LOD, Altrum, KeithMcBrief, and Xiaoweixiao.

Azubu also says that it will be offering a range of content associated with the MOBA title during the event, including holiday skin bundles, a vacation for two community members to attend a match, and more.

Ian Sharpe, the chief executive officer of the company, states, “The team at eSportspedia put on a very successful ‘Best of X’ tournament last year, so we jumped at the opportunity to support a new version of the tournament. The holidays are all about coming together and giving back, so we’re asking the League community to join us in supporting charities such as Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals via their Extra Life program.”

Gamers can still sign up for the League of Legends event on the official page.

League of Legends is fighting for the most popular MOBA spot

The MOBA space has been getting crowded in the last few years but League of Legends from Riot Games and DOTA 2 from Valve are the two titles that have managed to capture most of the audience and are generating the best tournaments.

At the moment, both companies are delivering constant updates, trying to improve the quality of the titles based on the feedback offered by the community, and they are also organizing major events to keep fans engaged.

There are also initiatives designed to improve the interaction between players in order to make MOBA titles more attractive to new players in the long term.

This year, Blizzard will launch Heroes of the Storm, which is at the moment tested by a limited number of players, but it’s unclear whether the game can attract enough players to challenge the big two titles in the genre.
