Major League Gaming, the most successful eSport circuit in the world at the moment, has revealed that two teams who play League of Legends have lost their prize money after they have been accused of collusion during a tournament event.

MLG has revealed that the value of prize money that the two teams have lost is over 40,000 dollars (32,041 Euro).

A statement from Major League Gaming reads: “MLG regrets to announce that we will not be awarding 1st or 2nd Place finishes for the Summer Championship League of Legends Event. We have determined that there was collusion between the two final teams, Curse NA and Team Dignitas.”

It adds, “This is in clear violation of both the letter and spirit of MLG’s Official Pro Circuit Conduct Rules: ‘competitors may not intentionally Forfeit a Game or conspire to manipulate Rankings or Brackets. As such, both teams have been disqualified, and no placements or prize money will be awarded.”

It seems that neither of the two teams actually threw a match during a Major League Gaming competition, but they still broke the rules by simply choosing to play a version of League of Legends that uses slightly different rules for how the champions are chosen.

The MLG considers the version a simpler way to play League of Legends and has decided to take prize money away from the two teams in order to make sure that other such incidents don’t happen in the future.

League of Legends is one of the most successful free-to-play MOBA titles in the world of gaming at the moment and developer Riot Games is constantly introducing new heroes while making sure that the game experience is still balanced.

The game is facing competition from the upcoming DOTA 2 from Valve, which keeps the core mechanics of the series and introduces a better interface and more community tools.
